Communications

Beaumont Health, Royal Oak, Michigan
August 2004 to April 2017

  • Led the transition of major employee communications vehicles during merger between Beaumont Health System, Oakwood Healthcare and Botsford Hospital. Notably, led a team of seven to create a new, organization-wide employee newsletter, including heading planning meetings, issue plans, editorial policy, content and writing assignments.

  • Led the team that created and recommended a new style guide for Beaumont Health writing and editing.

  • Write, edit, issue plan, art direct and design the Beaumont Blend, an internal newsletter for an audience of 35,000 employees.

  • Led the transition of the Beaumont Health System newsletter, Inside Beaumont News, from print-only to email distribution saving the organization $50,000 per year.

  • As editor, delivers weekly employee newsletter including: writing, editing, designing with InDesign, work with photographers for all photos, take photos and proofread.

  • Developed metrics for measuring readership for Beaumont Blend. Average weekly clicks are upwards of 75,000.

  • Developed successful blogs for the health system, including Boom Dog, which garnered the most views of all Beaumont blogs. In addition, I blog for Beaumont’s Parenting Program and am the most-read blogger on the site reaching more than 70 countries.

  • Work with social media and media relations teams for external communications. Experienced with media walk-throughs and escorts, press conferences and social media brainstorming.

  • Lead employee culture changes through moral boosting events organization wide and internal videos, which are shot and edited by me.

  • Developed and delivered quarterly and bi-monthly newsletters for physicians and office mangers. Write, issue plan, art direct and work with photographers and graphic designers. As the lead on these publications, one of the highlights of creating them was being recognized as a top five finalist in the nation for “Best Non-Profit Newsletter” by Ragan Communications for Beaumont Doctor Quarterly.

  • Develop and deliver publications for the board of directors. Includes issue planning, writing, designing and working with upper-level management on messaging and content.

  • Manage the intern program for Communications across three hospitals. As program coordinator, I expanded the program to include recruiting from all colleges in the Midwest, which resulted in more students applying for the first semester I was leading the program than have ever applied in the past. The program continues to grow.

  • Write speeches for the chairman of the board, chief medical officer, chief operating officer and hospital president.

  • Managed special projects including an awards show where I successfully wrote all scripts, speeches and art directed six videos and the production of the show; also coordinated yearly Doctor’s Day celebrations, worked with hospital medical directors to communicate with the medical staff, promoted “service lines” through communications and marketing.

  • Hosted a Ragan Communications two-day conference at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Worked directly with the Ragan team on site needs, hosted the speaker and acted as go-to for conference participants.
